Some primary and secondary schools in Ile-Ife, Osun, on Monday witnessed low turnout of students as schools resumed for second term 2024/2025 academic session in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent who visited some of the schools in Ile-Ife and its environs, observed that only few students were in their schools.

At Ooni Girls’ High School, Oke-Ogbo, Ile-Ife, few students were seen in their classrooms while the teachers were busy taking attendance.

NAN reports that some other students were also seen sweeping their classrooms and the school’s premises.

Mrs Oluremi Oladapo, the Principal of the school, said the low turnout of students was as a result of the first day of resumption.

According to her, the low turnout is not strange on every resumption day, particularly at the beginning of the term.

“Usually, there is low turnout of pupils until maybe from Tuesday; the numbers of pupils will start to increase,” the school principal noted.

Also, at St Michael Anglican Primary School, Elekolo, Ile-Ife, only few pupils were seen in most of the classrooms.

NAN observed that skeletal academic activities were rendered to the few pupils that reported.

Mrs Helen Adelani, the Headmistress of the school, lamented the low turnout of pupils despite the fact that teachers were fully present.

Adelani noted that there would be an improvement in the number of the pupils from Tuesday, while admonishing them to be serious with their studies and ensure punctuality in school.

Similarly, there was low turnout of students at Royal International Schools, Oke-Ogbo Road, Ilode, as only few of them were spotted in classes having lessons.

Mr Monday Egobudike, the Proprietor of the school, said some parents believed that the first week of resumption was for skeletal work and general cleaning of the premises.

At L.A. Primary School, Oke-Ogbo, Area, Ile-Ife, the situation was the same as few numbers of pupils were seen in their classrooms.

NAN reports that some pupils were seen cleaning both classes and the school’s premises, while some teachers were monitoring the students.

Mrs Amuda Eluyefa, the Headmistress of the school, noted that the low turnout was usually being experienced on the first day of resumption.

Eluyefa also charged parents to give parental cares to their children by giving them appropriate monitoring and visiting them in their schools.

She commended the state government for providing quality education for the pupils, and called for more stationery for the school. (NAN)
