Sen. Saliu Mustapha has expressed optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will emerge victorious in the local government chairmanship election held on Saturday across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state.
He made the prediction while speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote at the Ode-Kolawole polling unit booth 005, Gambari Ward 1, Ilorin East area.
Mustapha, who is the Senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, said the anticipated victory of the party at the council polls was predicated on the performance of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration in the state.
He said that the massive support for APC would serve as a tonic to the governor to sustain the good work and make him deliver more democratic dividends to the people.
He noted that the good performance of the governor would manifest more when support came from the local government level especially from people sharing the same political ideology.
The Senator commended the Kwara Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) for conducting what he described as “peaceful elections” across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Mustapha, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Agricultural Production Services and Rural Development, said information available to him showed that the elections were peaceful.
“May I appreciate the people and also commend the state government and the state Independent Electoral Commission for a peaceful local government elections.
“We hope that APC will sweep the polls to enable our governor to continue with the good work,” he said.
Gov. AbdulRazaq was recently conferred with the title of Sardauna of Ilorin because of what the people tagged his impressive performance in office.
He urged the incoming chairmen and councillors to see the opportunity as service and sacrifice for the masses. (NAN)
