Alhaji Aliyu Bello, the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, has assured women of more tickets of the party in the forthcoming Local Government elections.
The chairman gave the assurance when he received a delegation of women led by Hajiya Hajarat Danyaro, member, representing Nasarawa Central Constituency at the State House of Assembly on an advocacy visit on Wednesday in Lafia.
He appreciated the lawmaker for leading such a wonderful delegation to reaffirm their commitment and loyalty to the party as well as the government.
Bello said, ” I am an advocate for women to be considered for elective positions and appointment into various positions.”
The APC chairman called on women to come out and contest for elective positions in the next LG election along side their male counterparts
“This is because we have women who are competent, capable, hardworking and committed to the development of the state.
” We can’t do it alone. We need your support to be able to deliver in our campaign promises,” he said
Bello warned the women against politics of religion, ethnicity and sentiments, saying that what happened during the last election in the state was a bitter experience.
The APC chairman called on the women to continue to support the good policies of Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration.
Earlier, Danyaro said the visit was to appreciate the APC chairman for his all-inclusive leadership.
She advocated women to be considered into the positions of Deputy Chairmen, Councillors and Overseers of LG Councils, among others.
” Hon. Chairman, you are a great pillar of women, even when you served as the Secretary of the party.
” You supported the emergence of women as Deputy Chairmen in Lafia for two times and a Councillor in Wamba, among other numerous positions.
” I personally complained to you to assist so that more women will occupy chairmanship positions in the local government areas. We appreciate you and believe you can do more as always,” Danyaro said
The lawmaker expressed concern over poor women representation in positions in the state.
According to her, she is the only female member in the assembly and appealed for Bello’s support for women to succeed in the 2027 election.
” Out of 147 councillors representing different wards at the 13 LG councils in the state, only 4 are women.
”It is unfortunate. We deserve more than this. We will not disappoint you,” she said.
Others who spoke at the occasion included the Commissioner, Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning, Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi, APC Woman Leader, Blessing Ibrahim, Executive Secretary, Scholarship Board, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yahaya
Others were: A former House of Assembly member representing Nassarawa Eggon East Constituency, Mrs Mary Enwongulu, and former SSG, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, who all corroborated the views of Danyaro
They urged women to put their sentiments and individual differences aside and work towards supporting each other in order to win elective positions.
They encouraged women participation in political activities in order to give them a sense of belonging.
The women appreciated Sule for appointing more women into his cabinet and appealed for more to enable them contribute positively to the development of the state.(NAN)
