Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has described the late President Muhammadu Buhari as a patriot who did his best to advance the nation’s development.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, from Abeokuta, Obasanjo expressed sadness over the news of Buhari’s passing.
“It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of a colleague, a comrade, a calm patriot and a soldier, General Muhammadu Buhari,” Obasanjo said.
He noted that Buhari had served Nigeria in various capacities — as a soldier, administrator, and statesman — contributing to the country’s progress through these roles.
Obasanjo emphasised the need for Nigeria to draw on the collective experience and statesmanship of its former leaders to help the country overcome its current challenges.
“Buhari will be sorely missed, and may his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
