The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned dealers against display of vehicles at unauthorised locations in the state.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the warning during a visit to him by members of Lagos Motor Dealers Association, on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to Bakare-Oki, display of vehicles for sale on road setbacks, walkways and other prohibited areas obstructs free flow of traffic.
Bakare-Oki emphasised the importance of maintaining order and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
He said that LASTMA had received numerous complaints from community development associations regarding illegal activities of some auto dealers.
He said that display of vehicles on roadsides, setbacks, streets and walkways posed a significant risk to public safety, obstructed pedestrians’ movement and caused traffic congestion.
“Lagos State Government is dedicated to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for all residents and road users.
“We will not hesitate to enforce the law against any auto dealer found violating these regulations,” he said.
He urged auto dealers to strictly adhere to the guidelines for vehicle display to avoid sanctions.
He said that the santions would include fines and seizure of vehicles.
Responding, the President of Lagos Motor Dealers Association, Mr Leke Aladegbemi, said that the association was willing to cooperate with LASTMA and other authorities and ensure compliance with regulations.
Aladegbemi said that there was the need for auto dealers to operate within the confines of the law, and pledged to educate members of the association on the importance of adhering to regulations.
Other members of the association at the visit are Mr Olaniran Adelana, Secretary, and Mr Obodo Monday, Assistant Secretary. (NAN)
