LASEMA Attended To 1,675 Incidents In 2024

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), on Sunday, said it responded to 1,675 incidents between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024.

The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who made this known in a statement, said 167 incidents were attended to in December 2024.

“Out of the annual total of 1,675 attended by the agency in 2024, 167 incidents were attended to in the month of December.

“This effectively brought the total figure from June 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2024 to 8,117 incidents attended by the agency during the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration,” he said.

He added that out of the 167 incidents attended to in December 2024, road accident category ranked first with 58 vehicular crashes, while truck and tanker category ranked second with 43 incidents.

“This comprised of 29 truck and tanker accidents, 11 breakdowns, two fallen truck and tankers and one stuck tanker incident.

“Fire disaster ranks third with 33 incidents comprising of 31 fire outbreaks, one burnt tanker and truck and one burnt car and BRT bus,” he said.

He said that 17 other events comprising of 15 assorted incidents, one well incident and one assault, ranked fourth.

“The medical category ranks fifth with 13 assorted incidents, with one building collapse, one explosion, and one gas leakage jointly ranks sixth in position,” he said.

He said the agency did not record any case under the marine, train nor air crash category in December, 2024.

“Data analysis of incidents attended per Local Government (LG), in the month under review, reveals that Eti-Osa LG ranks highest with 23 cases attended to out of the 167 incidents recorded.

“This followed by Ikeja LG with 22 recorded incidents, while Alimosho LG, with the largest landmass, ranks third with 21 recorded cases out of the 167 incidents attended in December, 2024.

“Kosofe LG ranks fourth with 15 incidents, Mushin and Lagos Mainland LG ranks fifth, each with 12 incidents recorded,” he added.

He said that Lagos Island LG ranked seventh with 11 incidents followed by Oshodi-Isolo with 10 incidents.

He added that Shomolu LG ranked ninth with eight incidents trailed by Apapa with seven incidents, alongside with Surulere LG ranking eleventh with six incidents recorded.

“Further, Ifako-Ijaiye LG ranks 12 with five incidents, Amuwo-Odofin ranks 13 with three incidents recorded.

“Agege, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu, Epe, Ojo LG and outside Lagos ranks in 14 place with two incidents each.

“Badagry and Ajeromi-Ifelodun LG did not record any emergency or disaster incidents in December, 2024,” he said.(NAN)
