Lagos Speaker Salutes Orelope-Adefulire At 65

The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa ,has congratulated a former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, on her 65th birthday anniversary.
Obasa, in a statement on Sunday in Lagos, described Orelope-Adefulire as a shining star ,who had continued to make the state proud ,years after serving the state as deputy governor.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, born 29 Sept. 29, 1959 is a Nigerian politician,who served as deputy to former Gov. Babatunde Fashola from 2011 to 2015.
NAN reports that prior to that, she was the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation from 2003 to 2011.
According to Obasa, Orelope-Adefulire’s leadership style, commitment to service and dedication to whatever responsibilities placed before her have consistently marked her out as one to be celebrated.
“As the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our former deputy governor is known to have initiated and implemented many strategic intervention programme.
“These intervention programme have assisted in the growth and progress of Nigeria,” the speaker said.
Noting that such interventions had helped to resolve challenges in the education and economic sectors of the country, Obasa said Orelope-Adefulire remained a cherished asset to Nigeria.
He said through her office, the Federal Government had intervened in the areas of women empowerment, support for children and creation of skills acquisition centres ,spread across the country.
The speaker said it was on record that Orelope-Adefulire co-sponsored the Child Rights Law and the Domestic Violence Law of Lagos State (2007).
Obasa said she was noted to have also facilitated the establishment of 22 functional skills acquisition centres for the unemployed.
According to him, the 176-bed transit home for victims of domestic violence and abuse still stands as a testament of her passion for a better Nigeria.
“On behalf of my family and colleagues at the Lagos Assembly, I wish her the best of years ahead and capacity to continue to play positive roles for the progress of our country”,he said. (NAN)
