Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has dismissed claims of a political falling-out with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, labelling the speculation as unfounded and the product of external mischief-makers.
Speaking to reporters after a private meeting with the President in Ikoyi on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu described Tinubu as both his political mentor and father figure. “There is no discord. He remains my leader. These are narratives fuelled by people more agitated than those directly involved,” he stated.
The meeting was attended by members of the Lagos State Governors Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body within the local All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the governor, the gathering was a traditional courtesy call tied to the Sallah festivities and an opportunity to reaffirm unity within the party.
Sanwo-Olu also used the occasion to express support for the President’s economic policies, referencing infrastructure achievements such as the Blue Line rail project and recent steps to ease the burden of fuel and food costs.
Dismissing calls for nationwide protests on the upcoming June 12 Democracy Day, he said, “The economy is stabilising. Let’s give the President more time.”
The appearance of the Deputy Governor and senior party officials alongside the GAC was seen as a show of solidarity, countering persistent reports of internal division within the ruling party’s Lagos stronghold.
