A 40-year-old Nigerian man has been remanded in custody after pleading guilty to the theft of electrical cable worth nearly ₦3 million in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
The defendant, Seun Olakunle, was brought before the Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where Magistrate B.A. Sonuga ordered his detention at a correctional centre pending a formal review of case details. Sentencing is expected to take place on 17 July.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Aminu Isaac, the theft occurred around 6 a.m. on 19 June, when Olakunle allegedly broke into a private home on Aliqoda Street and stole cabling belonging to one Mr Olawale Abimbola.
The accused faces charges under Lagos State’s 2015 Criminal Code, including Sections 307(2), 339, and 287, which pertain to unlawful entry and theft. Nigerian law stipulates a potential three-year prison term for offences of this nature.
Authorities continue to battle rising incidents of burglary and theft in Lagos suburbs, with community leaders urging increased vigilance and law enforcement presence.
