The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced the demise of Senior Correctional Assistant (SCA) Shuaibu King-David.
Abubakar Umar, the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) and Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), said in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, that King-David died during the unfortunate escape incident at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Koton-Karfe, Kogi, on Monday.
Umar stated that King-David, in the line of duty, bravely stood his ground to prevent the escape of the inmates and protect the integrity of the custodial centre.
The NCoS spokesman added that King-David’s courageous sacrifice reflected his unwavering dedication to service and national security.
He quoted the acting Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, as extending heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues and loved ones of the late officer.
The acting controller-general said the late senior correctional assistant’s service and ultimate sacrifice would forever be remembered and honoured.
“The Nigerian Correctional Service is working closely with relevant security agencies and communities to recapture those still at large and bring them to justice.
“Additionally, measures are being taken to enhance security in all custodial centres across the country, to prevent such occurrences in the future.
“The service remains committed to ensuring the safety of officers and security of custodial facilities nationwide.
“May the soul of SCA Shuaibu King-David rest in peace, Amen.”(NAN)
