Miss Jennifer Ezeonyeasi, Culture and Events Administrative Assistant at the Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria (KCCN), has urged the creative sector to utilise the opportunity to infuse cultural attires of Korea and Nigeria through fashion.
Ezeonyeasi made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, stating that such a move would help promote cultural relations between the two countries.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that KCCN recently held a one-day Hanbok (traditional clothing) workshop titled “Style Me Hanbok”.
Ezeonyeasi said the exhibition aimed to educate Nigerians about Korean cultural attires.
She added that if fashion designers in Nigeria combined both countries’ cultural attires, it would showcase the excellence of the countries’ cultural attires and boost the creative sector.
“The workshop also serves as an inspiration to fashion designers or intending creatives in Nigeria to find ways to fuse both cultures (Korea and Nigeria) through fashion, thereby promoting cultural relations between both countries,” Ezeonyeasi said.
She further stated that the culture boxes were the newest addition to KCCN, aimed at helping Nigerians interact more with Korean culture.
“The centre wants to bring Korea closer to Nigeria, which was the reason for the exhibition, and help Nigerians develop an interest in traditional clothing to promote both cultural heritages.”
Ezeonyeasi noted that due to the popularity of Korean entertainment in Nigeria, Nigerians are familiar with traditional clothing but not the values and philosophies behind it.
“During the workshop, participants gained fundamental knowledge of the history, types of Hanbok, and their uses, alongside the ornaments worn with them.
NAN reports that nine participants won Hanbok key holders, and the centre introduced culture boxes featuring Korean food, language, and traditional clothing.
