The Kaduna State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced the appointment of two new Chief Registrars for the State High Court of Justice and the Sharia Court of Appeal, as part of a broader initiative to strengthen judicial administration in the state.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Commission’s Secretary, Mr Murtala Halidu, the appointments were confirmed following a meeting chaired by the Chief Judge of Kaduna State, Justice Muhammad Aliyu.
Mr Benjamin Hassan has been named Chief Registrar of the State High Court of Justice, while Mr Muhammad Ali has been appointed Chief Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal.
According to Halidu, the decisions were based on the candidates’ proven track records, demonstrated competence, and their capacity to fulfil the responsibilities of the role effectively.
Additional appointments include Deputy Chief Registrars for both the High Court and the Sharia Court of Appeal, as well as a new Director of Administration and other personnel within the Sharia Court system.
In a move aimed at improving standards and transparency in judicial appointments, the Commission also introduced a new system of written examinations and interviews for aspiring judicial officers.
Furthermore, 154 staff members have been promoted, 20 were approved for cadre changes, two for conversion, and one for advancement. Promotions for employees at Grade Level 07 and above will now also include written examinations.
Halidu conveyed the Commission’s congratulations to the newly appointed officials, urging them to leverage their legal experience to improve efficiency and uphold integrity in the justice system.
