Legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has tendered a public apology over an incident involving him and ValueJet Airlines at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 5, 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday, K1 addressed what he described as an “unfortunate” misunderstanding surrounding a water flask he was carrying, which sparked controversy and speculation on social media and in the press.
“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me,” the music icon explained.
K1 clarified that the flask in question contained only water, not alcohol as was widely speculated. He noted that he had passed through two security checkpoints with the flask empty, only filling it with water at the airport lounge before proceeding to the tarmac.
“This fact can be verified by the CCTV footage at the airport lounge. More so, I hadn’t even boarded the plane, let alone being deboarded,” he added.
While denying any wrongdoing, the veteran performer expressed deep regret over the incident and emphasised that he had no intention of violating aviation protocols or causing a disruption.
“I would never do anything to tarnish the image I’ve built over the past five decades, nor would I knowingly act in a way that could diminish the reputation of the country I love so dearly,” he stated.
Reaffirming his patriotism and commitment to upholding Nigeria’s image, K1 De Ultimate extended his unreserved apology to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, and his fans around the world.
“To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and my teeming fans across the world who have shown great concern since the incident happened, I tender my heartfelt apology,” he concluded.
The apology has sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians commending the Fuji maestro for his humility and transparency.
