A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 38-year-old businessman, Ezra Raymond, to three years in prison for stealing a car.
The Magistrate, Mr Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced Raymond after he pleaded guilty to a count charge of stealing.
Bokkos, however, gave the convict an option to pay N100,000 fine or spend one of the three years in prison.
He also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N2. 4 million to his victim or spend the other two years in prison.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported to the police on Dec. 4, 2024, by one Mr Leonard Okoseme.
Gokwat said that the convict deceived the complainant to release his car for him to show a prospective uyer.
“The said car, valued at N7,000, 000, was given to him to show the prospective buyer but he ran away with the car for many months.
“During police investigation, the car was tracked and recovered from one Idris Alhassan.
“The convict sold the car for N1,800,000 and kept the money for his personal use, “ Gokwat told the court.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.(NAN)
