Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and Ghana’s former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have paid heartfelt tributes to Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, remembering him as a leader devoted to national unity and integrity.
In messages delivered during a condolence visit to Nigeria’s Vice-President, Senator Kashim Shettima, currently in London with a presidential delegation, both leaders highlighted Buhari’s enduring contributions to Nigeria and the wider West African region.
Jonathan praised Buhari for his commitment to democratic governance and national stability, noting that his leadership and principles would continue to influence Nigeria’s political landscape for years to come.
Akufo-Addo reflected on Buhari’s pan-African vision, commending his efforts to promote regional peace, economic cooperation, and the fight against terrorism across West Africa.
According to Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, the meeting was deeply emotional, with both leaders expressing their solidarity with Nigeria during this time of national mourning.
The Vice-President Shettima travelled to London on President Bola Tinubu’s directive to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria for burial.
The delegation also includes Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, and Deputy Chief of Staff Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia.
The presidency added that preparations were underway to ensure a dignified return and a state burial befitting the late statesman.
