Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday called for the temporary evacuation of Palestinian residents against the backdrop of a major counterterrorism operation in the north of the West Bank.
“The Israel Defence Forces has been intensively operating in the Jenin at night, and Tulkarm refugee camps to combat the terrorist infrastructure established there.
“Iran is working to create an eastern terrorist front against Israel in the West Bank, following the model of Gaza and Lebanon.
“Financing and arming terrorists and smuggling the latest weapons from Jordan,’’ Katz said in a statement on X.
The top Israeli diplomat said Israel must address the terrorist threat by, among other things, evacuating Palestinian residents in a timely manner and taking other necessary steps.
“This is a war in every sense, and we must win it,’’ Katz added.
On Oct. 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip.
Following this, Hamas fighters infiltrated border areas, opening fire on military and civilian targets, and captured more than 250 hostages.
According to Israeli authorities, approximately 1,200 people were killed.
In response, the Israel Defence Forces launched operation Iron swords in the Gaza Strip.
Israel declared a total blockade of the enclave, halting the supply of water, electricity, fuel, food, and medicine.
According to health authorities in Gaza, the death toll from Israeli strikes in the enclave since Oct. 7, has exceeded 40, 400, with more than 93,500 people injured. (Sputnik/NAN)
