Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has condemned recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, insisting Washington must face consequences for what he described as unjustified aggression.
Pezeshkian made the remarks during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, according to a statement released by the Iranian presidency on Sunday. The conversation followed a dramatic escalation in regional tensions after U.S. forces struck nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—just days after a series of Israeli assaults on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure.
“The United States must be made to answer for its aggression,” Pezeshkian told Macron. He accused Washington of hypocrisy, claiming the airstrikes exposed the “insincerity” of its stated commitment to peace and diplomacy.
Despite his criticism of the U.S., Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to engagement with European partners. “We have never abandoned the path of diplomacy and have consistently expressed our readiness for constructive dialogue with Europe,” he said.
Macron reiterated France’s desire to pursue diplomatic avenues and pledged to continue efforts to reduce tensions. Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have reported more than 400 deaths and over 3,500 injuries from the recent strikes, while Israeli officials confirmed 24 fatalities following Iran’s retaliatory missile and drone attacks.
