The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has notified
the suspended Senator, representing Kogi Central district at the National Assembly, Natasha Akpoti -Uduaghan that it received a petition, seeking her recall by constituents of the senatorial district.
The notification is contained in a letter signed by Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran Anthony,
addressed to the lawmaker and copied to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The notification is pursuant to Section 69 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
“Pursuant to Section 69 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I write to notify you of the receipt of a petition from representatives of registered voters in your constituency seeking your recall from the Senate.
“This notification is in line with the provision of Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall, 2024. This letter is also copied to the presiding officer of the Senate and simultaneously published on the Commission’s website,” the letter reads.
Reports that some registered voters from the Kogi Central Senatorial District of Kogi State had on Monday submitted a petition to INEC) seeking the recall of Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Leader of the group, Concerned Kogi Youth and Women, Charity Ijoshe Omole, who submitted the petition at INEC headquarters in Abuja, said they have lost confidence in the suspended Senator because of her gross misconduct.
