The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akwa Ibom State has announced plans to reopen its online portal for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in preparation for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Uyo on Wednesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Obo Effanga, called on residents to make use of the opportunity to register to vote.
Mr Effanga revealed that, in addition to the online process, physical registration would commence at local government council headquarters across the state from 25 August.
He encouraged those who had started their registration online to visit INEC offices at the state or local government level to complete their data capture.
“It’s the same process,” he explained. “With the portal, you can begin your registration comfortably from home and then come to our offices for biometric data capturing. The exercise will also cater for requests such as voter transfers, correction of name spellings, and address updates.”
The REC warned against multiple registrations, noting that individuals who lose their voter cards should request a reprint rather than attempt to register again.
