The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Osun State branch, on Tuesday, tasked stakeholders on taking immediate action against any form of rights infringement on citizens in the state.
The State’s CDHR Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Olowu, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo.
Olowu underscored the need for stakeholders to collaborate in building a culture of rights awareness and protection, which he said had become necessary especially through accountability and vigilance.
Meanwhile, he urged government to focus on strengthening institutions that safeguard human rights, as well as to promote the enforcement of laws protecting vulnerable persons in the state.
”I want to urge everyone to embrace solidarity and actively
participate in increasing a society where everyone’s right is respected and protected.
”We can shape a future that truly reflects the ideals of equity, justice, and dignity,” he said.
The chairman, further noted that human rights are not abstract ideals, but forms the bedrock of a shared humanity and foundation upon which the nation’s future is built.
He harped on the need for violators of human rights to be held accountable for their actions, adding that through technical and financial support from stakeholders, human rights will be better safeguarded. (NAN)
