A 35-year-old housewife, Sarah Gideon, on Thursday appeared before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a goat.
The defendant, a resident of Narayi Area of Kaduna, was charged with one-count of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Luka, told the court that the complainant, Martins Bobai of Karji, Kaduna, reported the matter at Barnawa Police Station on Tuesday.
According to him, the defendant, who went to do a farm job close to the complainant’s house, saw the goat tied outside the house and allegedly stole it.
He said the defendant untied the goat and was dragging it when the complainant’s neighbour saw her struggling with it and raised the alarm.
Luka further said that when the defendant was caught, she could not give a satisfactory explanation on why she untied the goat.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
“Section 217 stipulates seven years imprisonment for stealing if found guilty,” he said.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Emmanuel adjourned the matter till Aug. 14, for hearing.(NAN)
