Gunmen have reportedly killed seven persons in a late night attack on Tatara village in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident which happened on Saturday, left score of people injured.
The attackers were said to have stormed the area on motorcycles at about 10:pm shooting sporadically, killing three persons before advancing deep into the community.
Sources said the invaders who entered the community from neighbouring Kaduna State killed four more persons before fleeing when they got the fillers that security operatives were on their way to the area.
They said the attackers escaped through the same route they entered the community into Kaduna State.
One of the sources said that Tatara and neighbouring communities have been constantly under attack by the gunmen who he referred to as bandits.
“This is not the first time. Tatara and neighbouring communities have been experiencing this constant attacks by bandits, and we have been reporting to the authority whenever such incident occurred, sadly the attacks continues,” he explained.
A resident of Keffi and a member of security committee in the area, Mr. Ibrahim Babayo also confirmed that the attacks have been happening.
” I received a called at around 12 am on Sunday confirming that gunmen, allegedly from the Fulani tribe, stormed the village, shooting indiscriminately and leaving seven innocent lives lost.
” This vicious attack is reportedly part of a series of assaults that have plagued the area for some time.And as a concerned group and security committee, our primary focus is on finding solutions to prevent such repeated attacks and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected communities, particularly Tatara village,” he told journalists.
The state police command also confirmed the incident which it attributed to armed robbery.
” It was a robbery incident that was foiled. The attackers injured some people sitting in front of the shop they wanted to rob, but they escaped before the arrival of the police.
” The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment as normalcy has been restored,” the command’s public relations officer, SP Ramhan Nansel told some journalists.
