A socio-political group, Plateau Patriotic Front, has commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, for his efforts toward the return of train services in the state.
The Chairman of the group, Mr Mani Imman, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos.
NAN recalls that in the last two months, the Plateau government has been providing free rides from the Jos terminal to Bukuru, as the trains were being test-run, getting set for full commercial services.
The Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, disclosed at a public lecture that Plateau was among the four states making arrangements to operate train services in their respective domains.
According to Imman, the move would further reduce the high cost of transportation for residents of the state.
“We receive the news of the return of the train services with joy and we can clearly see how happy Plateau citizens are with the development.
”We are glad that some of the promises made by Gov. Mutfwang during his campaigns are being fulfilled.
“In the transport sector, apart from the provision of the subsidised metro buses, the governor has also collaborated with the NRC to bring in train service to ease the cost of transportation for citizens.
”We commend the governor for reviving the train service; this development will add value to governance,”he said.
While extolling the governor’s gesture, Imman said that the move has brought succour to the people as it lasted.
He further called on the governor to sustain his developmental strides toward ensuring that the citizens continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy as promised.(NAN)
