A 79-year-old grandmother has appealed to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging his immediate intervention in an alleged land fraud case involving high-level police complicity and persistent impunity.
Hajia Colleen Mero Yesufu, in a letter dated 10 June 2025, accused the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of shielding individuals implicated in the fraudulent sale of her properties in Guzape and Katampe Districts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to Yesufu, her properties — Plot 4022 in Guzape and Plots 1861, 1862, and 1863 in Katampe — were unlawfully taken through an elaborate scheme of forgery, impersonation, and illegal sales, allegedly masterminded by one Ms Omokamo and associates. Despite multiple government investigations implicating the suspect, she claims there has been no meaningful enforcement action.
“The Nigerian Police Force continues to offer protection to the perpetrators,” she wrote, “even though agencies such as the ICPC, FCTA, and EFCC have provided irrefutable evidence of criminal activity.”
Yesufu expressed her disappointment over what she termed the “persistent disregard for the rule of law”, highlighting Ms Omokamo’s reported appearances at the Presidential Villa and her inclusion in a 2024 trip to Doha, Qatar, as troubling signs of political backing.
She also criticised the accused’s open letter to President Tinubu, in which Omokamo had claimed moral uprightness and denied any wrongdoing. “These statements are deeply deceptive and contradict the findings of credible investigative bodies,” Yesufu stated.
The elderly petitioner described the properties as the product of her life’s savings and her family’s legacy, expressing fear that a lack of presidential action following damning reports from anti-graft bodies would embolden further abuse of power.
Citing concerns over identity fraud, she alleged that Omokamo had also operated under multiple names, including Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu, in order to facilitate the land fraud.
Yesufu’s plea concludes with a call for President Tinubu to demonstrate that his administration “stands on the side of justice,” especially in matters involving vulnerable citizens.
