Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has paid tribute to Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London following a brief illness, describing him as a leader of “unwavering integrity” and deep patriotism.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo said the former president was a disciplined statesman whose fight against corruption and efforts to strengthen national security had left a lasting legacy.
“With a heavy heart, we received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” the Governor said. “He was a man of immense character who served Nigeria with uncommon zeal and selflessness. His commitment to probity and patriotism will always be remembered.”
Governor Okpebholo also acknowledged Buhari’s contributions to national development, highlighting achievements in agriculture, infrastructure, and the battle against insurgency.
“Even after his time in office, former President Buhari remained an influential elder statesman, whose advice and counsel were deeply valued,” he noted.
Offering his condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large, Governor Okpebholo prayed for the former leader’s soul to rest in peace and for strength for his family during this difficult period.
