Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, on Saturday hosted a civic reception in honour of Alhaji Babayo Adamu, on the occasion of his meritorious retirement from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and in celebration of his 60th birthday.
The colourful event, held at the International Conference Centre, Gombe, was attended by dignitaries, family members, friends, colleagues and well-wishers from across the country who came to celebrate the milestone achievements of the retired NPA Director.
In his remarks, Governor Inuwa Yahaya congratulated the celebrant for his distinguished service of over 30 years at the Nigerian Ports Authority, describing him as a forthright, principled and quintessential gentleman who served with honour and distinction.
The Governor commended Babayo’s contributions to national development and his positive impact on Gombe State, noting his professionalism, and personal integrity.
Reflecting on their long-standing relationship, Governor Inuwa Yahaya recalled their early days of friendship, which, he noted, has evolved into a lasting bond, further strengthened by the union of their children in marriage.
He affirmed that the relationship built over the years would continue to flourish, regardless of life’s circumstances.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, who was represented at the event by a General Manager, Ahmed Wanka, paid glowing tribute to Alhaji Babayo, describing his career as one marked by hard work, humility and integrity.
He noted that the NPA would greatly miss his invaluable service and urged the Gombe State Government to leverage his wealth of experience in public service even in retirement.
Other dignitaries who gave goodwill messages included Usman Kukandaka and Mr. Philip Jesima, North-West Regional Director of Ecobank.
They commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for honouring the celebrant and lauded his leadership in creating platforms for sustainable economic development in Gombe State.
In a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the family, Dr. Adamu Mohammed Damori, brother of the celebrant, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for the honour accorded to Alhaji Babayo Adamu.
He described the outpouring of goodwill and solidarity as deeply touching and a relection of the celebrant’s character and legacy.
