Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged all government agencies and other employers of corps members not to reject them but provide an enabling environment to enable them work.
Oborevwori said this on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of Batch B Stream ll Corp members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Issele-uku in Delta.
Oborevwori was represented by Mr Harry Trakiriowei, the Commissioner for Youth Development.
According to the governor, all government agencies and other employers of corps members should not reject Corp members but provide a good environment for them to perform.
“I will like to appeal to all local government personnel, traditional rulers, community leaders and all security agencies to consciously make the security of corps members a top priority.
“I urge you to provide a peaceful and interactive atmosphere for youths to fully integrate into your various communities to make them contribute their quota to the development of Delta,” he said.
He urged corp members to bear the unity and oneness of the Nigerian nation in mind as they render their service to our dear country.
“I encourage you all to serve diligently with sincere commitment. Most of these communities have benefitted from development projects and giant strides of your worthy predecessors in national service.
“As you go into these communities, decide to be worthy ambassadors of the NYSC and be determined to write your names in gold in the hearts of the people.
“Be role models and good mentors to our children and youths in various communities.
“As a government, we will continue to reward excellent service among corps members and encourage any action or service capable of improving the lot of our people,” Oborevwori said.
He said that thế state would continue to discharge its statutory responsibilities to the scheme within the limits of available resources.
He said the state government would continue to develop the permanent orientation camp by adding value to ensure that induction and training of corps members on this ground was complete and total.
Mr Olusegun Alao, NYSC State Coordinator commended the state government for its effort in the completion of the 700-bed capacity hostel.
“I wish to place on record the support of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, towards the NYSC in the state. The soon to be completed 700 beds capacity hostel is a testament to this effort.
“To my dear Corps members, I encourage you to actively participate in either group or individual projects in line with the objectives of the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) programme.
“I urge you to work towards leaving a positive and lasting impact on the lives of the people in your host communities,” Alao said.(NAN)
