Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has presented letters of employment to 1,038 newly recruited agricultural extension agents and support staff under the State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).
The employment letters were formally presented during a ceremony held at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano.
Speaking at the flag-off event, Governor Yusuf charged the newly engaged personnel to approach their responsibilities with commitment, discipline, and a deep sense of service to the people.
“As frontline ambassadors of agricultural transformation, your conduct and dedication will directly influence the success of our efforts to revitalize agriculture and empower rural communities across the state,” the governor said.
He warned against absenteeism, misconduct, laziness, and any form of corruption that could undermine the state’s agricultural development goals.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the extension workers are expected to promote sustainable farming practices, improve agricultural productivity, and bring innovation and modern techniques to farmers across the state.
“We are building a new generation of field workers who will bring modern practices, improved inputs, and innovative solutions to our farms, our cooperatives, and our communities,” he added.
Congratulating the recruits, he described them as “change agents” expected to act as a bridge between the government and farmers, helping to boost yields, enhance agribusinesses, and support food sufficiency.
He also noted that the recruitment marks a significant step in strengthening the capacity of KNARDA, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, as Kano aims to become a leader in agricultural extension services nationwide.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, said the recruitment drive is part of Governor Yusuf’s vision to enhance food security and raise the income levels of the people of Kano State.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the Kano State Civil Service Commission, Hajiya Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, described the initiative as a major milestone in strengthening the agricultural workforce and a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.
