The Women in Aviation Nigeria (WIA) has expressed the hope that the 2024 Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) would provide an opportunity to showcase career potential in the industry for the girl-child.

The President of WIA Nigeria, Dr Rejoice Ndudinachi, expressed the optimism in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

Ndudinachi noted that Sept. 21 was globally celebrated annually as (GIAD) to expose girls to career opportunities in aviation.

“The history of the event goes back to what was known then as Daughters Day in our annual international conferences.

“Everyone that has participated in the event over the years can testify to this transformational impact on the life of our young future female aviators,” she said.

According to her, women in aviation Nigeria desire to see participants interact with positive role models.

“It presents an opportunity for them to consider aviation as they make their college and career plans.

“We will introduce girls to role models, train them on various aviation-related skills and place them in a supportive atmosphere to encourage them to take up careers in aviation,” she said.

Ndudinachi said that the main aim of the initiative was to attract girls into the industry and positively impact their lives by exposing them to careers in the aviation industry.

She told NAN that all the branches of WIA in the country would be present at their various airports for the GIAD commemoration.

She added that the 2024 edition would feature airport tours and exposure of girls to educational resources.

NAN reports that GIAD started in 2015.

Thousands of girls around the world, aged eight years to 18 years, are expected to be able to experience the 10th edition in their local communities through unique events hosted by WAI chapters and corporate members. (NAN)
