FUT Minna To Award Degrees To 5,816 Graduands – VC

The Federal University of Technology (FUT Minna), will confer degrees on 5,816 graduands at its 33rd Convocation Ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Prof. Faruk Adamu-Kuta, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press conference ahead of the 33rd Convocation and 42nd Founders’ Day celebration.

The ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 1, at the Suleimanu Kumo Convocation Square, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.

According to Adamu-Kuta, the graduands include 119 first-class degree holders, 1,431 second-class upper division graduates, 2,341 second-class lower division graduates, 972 third-class degree holders, and 92 pass degree recipients.

“The convocation ceremony will confer first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, higher degrees, honorary degrees, and prizes on deserving graduates.

“We are graduating a total of 5,816 students for the 2023/2024 academic session. This includes 4,955 undergraduates, 632 master’s degree holders, 105 postgraduate diploma recipients, and 124 Ph.D. holders,” he said.

Adamu-Kuta also used the medium to highlight on the introduction of 13 new academic programmes, all endorsed by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He listed the courses to include Data Science, Software Engineering, Public Health, Forensic Science, Forestry and Wildlife Technology, Industrial Mathematics, and Meteorology.

Other are Interior Design, Furniture Design, Landscape Architecture, Food Engineering, Human Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Agribusiness.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the university had also implemented e-learning platforms to enhance teaching delivery.

In addition, he said, 94 staff members were awarded study fellowships, 112 were sponsored to attend workshops and conferences while 74 staff members received promotions to the ranks of Professors and Associate Professors.

Speaking on partnerships and accreditations, the VC said FUT Minna had also established collaborations with institutions such as Montana Technological University in the U.S. and the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana.

He explained that the move was to bolster research capabilities and provide opportunities for staff and students.

Adamu-Kuta announced that the university had received full accreditation for all its programmes from the NUC and other professional bodies.

He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to advancing research and teaching excellence through digitalisation and partnerships. (NAN)
