The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged the Federal University Dutsin-ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, to intensify efforts in providing enough buses for the conveyance of students from the take-off campus to the new site.
This is contained in a statement issued by the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Aliyu Ma’aji, issued by the spokesman of the command, Shamsudeen Babajo, on Sunday in Katsina.
Ma’aji said that the FRSC condemned the use of trucks and trailers to allegedly convey students of the institution from the take-off to the new campuses.
“We are equally calling on the school’s authority to hasten the repairs of the school buses,” he said
Ma’aji also recalled that some of the students were sighted on top of a truck going to the main campus in the social media platform that went viral.
The command, he said, has mobilised a stand-by team, in conjunction with the FRSC Koza Unit to be on patrol to ensure compliance, cautioning that such obnoxious practice could lead to the loss of lives.
Responding to the issue, the spokesperson of the university, M. Nasir Abdul, said that the university has provided enough buses for the conveyance of the students to the new campus.
“The management has provided enough buses and the management provides adequate fuel for the conveyance of the students.
“The Vice-Chancellor has concern for the students’ welfare. I can’t say we don’t have such cases here-and-there.
“But the bulk of the students are conveyed in school buses with security escort due to the security situation.
“Maybe the students you saw were those who refused to wait for the school buses to come back and carry them. We have provided enough buses purposely for conveying the students.
“We frown at the attitude of such students because we have provided enough buses for them,” he said.(NAN)
