Freezing rain caused chaos on the roads in southwestern Germany on Wednesday morning, with police in the state of Baden-Württemberg reporting more than 120 traffic accidents.
According to the police, several people were injured who warned people to drive more slowly and not brake suddenly.
“These are conditions that are simply less forgiving,’’ a police spokesman in the town of Aalen told dpa.
Flights at the airport in the state capital of Stuttgart were also disrupted by the ice, as the runway was briefly closed to allow crews to clear away any accumulated ice.
There were long delays in take-offs, an airport spokeswoman told dpa.
Two planes scheduled to land in Stuttgart in the morning had to be diverted to airports elsewhere in southern Germany. One landed in Nuremberg and one near Karlsruhe. (dpa/NAN)
