A group, ‘Marafa Mentorship Forum’, on Monday launched a project to feed 10,000 vulnerable persons in Zamfara to commemorate the 64th birthday of Sen. Kabiru Marafa.
Speaking while launching the project at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Gusau, the Forums’ Chairman, Dr Mika’il Barau, said the project was organised by the members of the forum.
“This is a group of over 1,000 people across the state who benefited from Sen. Marafa’s scholarship scheme.
“Before, we used to organise dinners and publications to celebrate the 64th birthday of our mentor, Sen. Marafa.
“But this time, considering the hardship faced by Nigerians, we decided to offer this gesture to various groups of the needy,” Barau said.
He said they would provide standard daily meals for 10,000 needy, begining with the FMC, Gusau, adding that the food would also be distributed in Prison yard, Yariman Bakura and Farida hospital.
The chairman further said that the forum would also support less privileged students from poor background through the National Education Fund, popularly known as Students’ Loan.
“Today, by 4 p.m., we are going to launch students’ loan office in Gusau, while another office will be opened in Talata Mafara town.
“We organised a visual presentation on security and banditry activities in Zamfara, anchored by Dr Murtala Rufai from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto,” he said.
In his remarks, Dr Murtala Saminu, Head of Nursing Department, FMC, commended the forum for choosing the center to begin the food distribution.
“This is a timely and welcome development considering the hardship faced by the less privileged and vulnerable persons in our society,” he noted.
Saminu called on other groups, associations and well-meaning individuals in the state to emulate the good gesture demonstrated by the forum. (NAN)
