Farida Waziri, the former Executive Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has honoured the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, highlighting the pivotal role he played in her life and public service.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday in Abuja, Waziri described Buhari’s death as a moment that resonated deeply across the nation. “It is a solemn reminder that, despite life’s trials and complexities, a person is ultimately remembered for the values they steadfastly uphold,” she noted.
Waziri praised Buhari as a leader shaped by discipline and known for his unwavering commitment to honesty and the fight against corruption. “From his days as a military ruler to his democratic tenure as President, his dedication to integrity never wavered,” she remarked.
She reflected on Buhari’s modest lifestyle and principled conduct, observing that he often took the difficult path of standing alone for what was right. “I pay tribute to him not just as a leader, but as someone whose actions directly affected my own life,” Waziri said.
She recalled that under Buhari’s leadership, her rightful retirement rank as Assistant Inspector General of Police was restored — an act she described as deeply meaningful and reflective of his character.
“President Buhari may have left this world, but his legacy of moral fortitude and dedication to fighting corruption will resonate for generations,” Waziri concluded. “May history remember him kindly, and may his soul rest in peace.”
