European Union countries agreed on Monday on more than one billion euros (1.1 billion U.S. dollars) in disaster relief to five member-countries struck by major floods in 2023.
The money from the EU Solidarity Fund is to go to Italy, Slovenia, Greece, France and Austria.
The biggest share, with almost 450 million euros and 430 million euros respectively, is foreseen for Italy and Slovenia where extremely intense rainfall caused major damage in 2023.
The announcement is coming days after flooding caused widespread devastation across Central and Eastern Europe in recent days.
The flooding caused devastation from Romania to Poland, with the European Commission pledging 10 billion euros in additional disaster relief. (dpa/NAN)
