The Chairman Borno State Flood Disaster Relief Distribution Committee, Engr. Baba Bukar Gujbawu on Sunday said the committee has verified more than 55,000 households over the past three weeks.
Gujbawu who disclosed this to Journalists in Maiduguri detailed that the areas covered so far include Gwange 1, Limanti, Shehuri North, Shehuri South, Bulabulin, Gamboru, Galtimari, Lamisula, and Goni Damgari in Bolori II.
He confirmed that all these communities have received food and non-food items to help mitigate the effects of the recent flood disaster.
Gujbawu further disclosed that the committee has approved the Borno State Social Investment Agency to begin payments to flood victims in Limanti, Gwange 1, Bulabulin, and Shehuri South.
“We have verified over 55,000 households in nine wards across Maiduguri Metropolitan, Jere, and Mafa local government areas.
“We have initiated the disbursement process, with the committee approving payments, while the State Social Investment Agency handles disbursements to the verified victims,” said Gujbawu.
He said the Committee has equally distributed food and non-food items to about 40,000 households in eight communities of Limanti, Shehuri North, Shehuri South, Bulabulin, Gamboru, Galtimari, Lamisula and some families in Goni Damgari.
The chairman also revealed that the committee has received ₦12 billion out of the ₦17 billion pledged by governmental and non-governmental organizations, philanthropic individuals, and corporate bodies.
He added that the committee is collaborating with United Nations agencies and other partners to provide relief items and cash support to minimally affected households in Tamsu Ngamdua in Mafa local government and other targeted areas.
” Verification efforts are ongoing in Maisandari and parts of Tamsu Ngamdua, while areas yet to be covered include Mashamari, Maimusari, Gwange II, and Gwange III,” he further said.
Gujbawu assured that all affected households will be assessed and verified.
