Henry Sackey, a member of the Ghanaian delegation attending the ongoing Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB ) Level 3 Coaching Course in Abuja, said the initiative is a rare opportunity for African coaches.
Sackey stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
NAN reports that the course, which began on May 4, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, has 25 participants from seven countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, India, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Gambia and Cameroon.
The course is the highest tier of international volleyball coaching certification, equipping coaches with advanced skills in planning, organising, and delivering training programmes for both individual players and teams.
Sackey said many of the participants had waited for several years to attain the certification.
According to him, some obtained their Level 2 certification course as far back as 1999, 2006, and 2015.
“We are thrilled that Nigeria is hosting this course. It is a blessing in disguise for many of us, especially those coming from countries where such opportunities are limited,” he said.
He said that the course curriculum covers key technical areas such as attacking, defending, blocking, serving, passing, and setting, in addition to team strategies among others.
“Participants are undergoing simultaneous theoretical and practical sessions daily, with world-class instructors facilitating the programme, ” Sackey stated.
The course which commenced on May 4 will end on May 11. (NAN)
