Gov Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has pledged the continuous support of his administration to the wives of Nigerian fallen heroes to improve their standard of living.
Fintiri made the pledge in an interview with newsmen shortly after the Armed Forces celebration and Remembrance Day in Yola on Wednesday.
He said that the widows deserved to be empowered with skills and starter packs to cater for themselves and their children.
“Their late husbands were cut off unprepared at the battle field and so the widows deserve to be empowered.
“So, we will open up our skills acquisition centers for them; I will give them all the needed support to encourage those in service that we are always with them and for them,” Fintiri said.
Warrant Officer, Ali Mohammed retired, Chairman, Nigeria Legion Adamawa chapter, appreciated the state government for supporting their members and wives of the fallen heroes.
He appealed to the Federal Government to prioritise the issue of healthcare for the members.
“Those of them under the health insurance scheme face the challenge of out of stock when they go to health facilities.
“Most of them don’t have the money for their treatment, hence the need for the government to look into their situation,” Mohammed said.
Omega Joshua, Chairperson Nigeria Legion Wives Association, appealed to the governor to fulfill the promises to enable them enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“Once you lose your husband, you are in trouble if you don’t have a helper.
“You are the one to do everything for your children. So, it is very painful,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor, the Speaker, Adamawa Assembly, Bathia Wisely, the state Chief Judge, Hafsat AbdulRahaman and the state service chiefs laid wreaths in honor of the fallen heroes. (NAN)
