The Federal Government has trained no fewer than 300 social media influencers in Sokoto State as part of efforts to enhance their capacity in promoting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, disclosed this on Monday during a one-day capacity-building programme held in the state capital. He said the initiative was driven by a personal commitment to projecting the true image of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ensuring accurate public engagement.
“This programme is part of our unwavering commitment to promote the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to highlight the remarkable strides made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State,” the minister said.
Goronyo emphasised the growing influence of new media in shaping public discourse, warning that while it can promote democracy, it can also distort facts if left unchecked.
“We see the need to bring influencers together and engage them meaningfully. The goal is to encourage accurate reporting, curb misinformation, and prioritise fact-checking in their content,” he added.
He listed key achievements of the Tinubu administration—including progress in infrastructure, agriculture, security, healthcare, road development, and youth empowerment—as evidence of a government working to deliver on its promises.
Goronyo urged the participants to make full use of the training to refine their digital communication skills and play a more constructive role in projecting the APC-led government’s policies and achievements.
State Government Pledges Continued Support
Representing Governor Ahmad Aliyu at the event, Deputy Governor Idris Gobir lauded the minister’s foresight and described the programme as a crucial step towards strengthening democratic values and improving government-public engagement.
“This engagement is vital to strengthening our democracy and amplifying the government’s commitment to the people,” Gobir said.
He also assured participants of the Sokoto State Government’s willingness to collaborate with media influencers in advancing the administration’s nine-point SMART agenda, aimed at delivering good governance and sustainable development.
