The Federal Government has announced plans to revive the moribund Kaduna Textile Industry as part of broader efforts to boost the country’s economy through industrialisation.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, disclosed this on Tuesday in Kaduna while delivering remarks at a two-day Interactive Session on Government-Citizen Engagement.
The event, themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizens Engagement for National Unity,” was organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF).
Akume, who led the high-powered federal delegation comprising appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Northern Nigeria, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive national development.
“President Tinubu is doing a lot in about eight key areas to ensure Nigeria experiences holistic development,” he said.
“We intend to revisit the glory days of the Kaduna Textile and other industrial hubs in the North as part of our drive toward economic diversification and industrialisation.”
He described the revitalisation of the textile sector as a strategic step to not only create jobs but also stimulate economic growth across the region.
“Industrialisation through diversification remains a top priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Reviving iconic industries like Kaduna Textile will further solidify the country’s economy,” Akume added.
He noted that despite being just two years and two months into office, President Tinubu’s administration had made significant progress across sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, energy, education, and social investment.
