Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi has urged the electorate to allow elected officials to fulfil their campaign promises rather than distracting them ahead of the 2027 election.
Abdullahi is the immediate past Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and current Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Yobe.
He made the call on Monday while speaking with journalists in his country home, Umaisha, Toto LGA.
He said those in elective positions need more time to deliver on their campaign pledges and make necessary adjustments where needed.
“Elected officials have spent two out of their four years in office. The early display of campaign posters is a distraction.
“Those seeking re-election still have ample time to take the right steps and gain the support of the electorate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The display of campaign posters by politicians holding elective positions at this stage is unnecessary. They still have two years to make an impact and fulfil their mandates,” he said.
Abdullahi said it is not yet time for him to declare which position he would contest in 2027.
“For those of us outside the system, we are observing and assessing our representatives. When the time comes, we will decide and inform the public.
“For now, our elected representatives still have time to perform, improve, and make amends, especially those seeking re-election but have not done enough for their people,” he said.
He called for continued support and prayers for leaders at all levels to enable them to succeed.
The former Speaker commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for providing purposeful leadership in the state.
He praised Sule’s peace efforts in Toto LGA and urged the people to unite despite their differences to sustain peace and development in the area. (NAN)
