Dr Samuel Nzekwe, a former President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN, has commended the Federal Government for resuscitating the Port-Harcourt Refinery.
Nzekwe said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Sango-Ota, Ogun.
NAN reports that the Spokesperson, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mr Femi Soneye, had said in a statement on Tuesday that the Port-Harcourt refinery had commenced the loading of petroleum products into trucks.
He said the production of petroleum products by the Port-Harcourt refinery was a welcome development that would help the country to save some foreign exchange for capital projects.
“The foreign exchange formally used to import the petroleum products will be saved and ploughed back into the economy to channel to other sectors.
“In addition, it will create employment opportunities for Nigerians.” he said.
Nzekwe urged the Federal Government to make concerted efforts to sustain the production of petroleum products to make it available to Nigerians.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts to revamp other refineries in the country. (NAN)
