The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, citing the president’s notable development efforts across the state.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor made the announcement at a town hall meeting in Okaijesan, where he formally welcomed a group of defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okpebholo described the APC as an inclusive political platform open to all Edo citizens committed to the state’s advancement. “The defection of these PDP members confirms that the opposition has lost relevance in my constituency, Esan Central,” he said.
He credited the wave of defections to the APC’s visible achievements and growing public confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu. Among those returning to the APC are former state legislators, local government officials, and party leaders, including ex-APC chairman Anselm Ojezua.
“Come 2027, Edo will give President Tinubu 2.5 million votes. Our state is fully behind the APC. The party is the engine of our development,” the governor declared.
Retired Major General Cecil Esekhaigbe, an APC leader in Edo Central, urged new members to embrace unity and progress. “This is a movement built on inclusion and purpose. Let’s work together to move Edo forward,” he said.
