The Ebonyi State Fire Service, said on Monday, that it recorded 75 fire outbreaks and one death in 2024.
Mr Raphael Ibiam, the Director of Fire Service, gave the figure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki.
Ibiam identified negligence and non-compliance with fire safety tips as a major causes of the fire incidents.
He said that property worth N257.2 million was estimated to have been lost while property valued N2.2 billion was saved during the period.
The director commended Gov. Francis Nwifuru for his support to the fire service through the provision of fire fighting equipment.
“The procurement of tools, fire engines and one hundred drums of 200-litre chemical foams compound by the state government was helpful,” he said.
Ibiam urged Abakaliki residents to adhere strictly to safety tips in order to prevent fire outbreaks and its resultant effects.(NAN)
