An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Mr Jamiu Yinusa, on Tuesday said only discipline by the leadership would set Nigeria on the right path of development.
Yinusa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin that Nigerian leaders must embrace discipline.
According to him, most leaders in the country lack the moral standard required to occupy the position they are in.
“Nigeria needs a leader that is strong, inspired, full of discipline, focused and determined to put the country on the path of development.
“We need leaders that are passionate about Nigeria, leaders who take responsibility for Nigeria and leaders that will enforce discipline.
“Most leaders are too selfish, and this has really hampered the country’s development. Nigeria deserves selfless leaders in all aspects to get it right,” Yinusa said.
The legal practitioner added that from the councillors in the local governments, to the governors in the states and the country’s President, everybody has a role to play.
According to him, all elected political office-holders and non-elected political office-holders should be full of discipline and be transparent in their leadership roles.
“Senators, House of Representatives and House or Assembly members, Councillors, Governors and Mr President should make the masses their priority and stop lavishing the country’s resources.
“All Directors in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies are also not left out. Let us all live by example and put the country first,” Yinusa said.
The lawyer also urged other members of the public to generally embrace discipline, adding that change starts from the individual.
“Leaders alone cannot change everything without the cooperation and support of those they lead,” he added.(NAN)
