Nigeria’s Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a loss felt both at home and globally.
In a statement released on Sunday, Kalu praised Buhari’s enduring legacy, noting his unwavering commitment to integrity, his strong stance against indiscipline, and transformative initiatives such as the “rice revolution,” which boosted local agricultural production.
“The passing of former President Buhari is a significant blow not just to our nation, but to the international community, given his contributions to our shared progress,” Kalu remarked.
Reflecting on Buhari’s tenure both as military head of state and as a democratically elected president, Kalu emphasised the late leader’s example of service and dedication to national welfare.
He offered his condolences to Buhari’s immediate family, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), political allies, and all Nigerians.
“May the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his family and the nation in this period of grief,” Kalu concluded.
