Delta Government on Wednesday unveiled the State Security Trust Fund’s consultants with a charge to ensure prudence and integrity as they engage in funds raising to support security operatives in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the State Trust Fund, Mr Samuel Osasa, gave the charge, while introducing the two consultants; HideaPlus and North-South Consultants at a press briefing in Asaba.
He said that more consultants would be engaged going forward, adding that the consultants have their catchment and coverage areas within the state.
The Executive Secretary said that the unveiling of the consultants was a directive from Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori to the Trust Fund to raise money to help all security operatives in the state to reduce criminal activities in line with his M.O.R.E Agenda.
Osasa, said that the unveiling had become necessary to sensitise the general public that government has engaged consultants to solicit for funds to assist security operatives, adding that government could not handle issues of security of lives and properties alone.
According to Osasa, the Trust Fund was established in 2013 by the Delta State House of Assembly but took effect in 2016 after the law was amended.
“We have been assisting security agencies over the years within the limits of our funds.
” However, on assumption of office, Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori has directed that the Trust Fund intensify efforts to raise money to help all security operatives in the state to reduce criminal activities in line with his M.O.R.E Agenda.
“So, in compliance with the directives, we are here to unveil and showcase the consultants who will do more to raise the funds, create awareness and as a vehicle to support the government in crime fighting,” he said.
Responding, the Managing Director, HideaPlus Consultant, Mr Tony Pemu, said that security remained everybody’s business and not that of government alone.
He said that they would reach out to corporate organisations and wealthy individuals to solicit funds to secure lives and properties in the state.
According to him, it is an assignment given to ensure the raising of funds to combat insecurity in the state.
While assuring of their resolve to deliver on the job, he lauded the partnership with the media to create the needed awareness and to help to achieve success.
Also, Mr Charles Omordia, Managing Director, North-South Consultant, said it was a privilege to partner the state government and the media to raise funds for the security operatives to fight crime in the state.
According to him, funding has been and remained the challenge of fighting crime in Nigeria.
He said that time has come to deploy an effective internet -based technologies in revenue generation to fund the security agencies.
“More businesses are springing up in the state and they need a secured environment to function,” Omordia said. (NAN)
