Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor on Wednesday pledged the House continuous synergy with the media.
Guwor, stated this when the executive and members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid a courtesy visit on him in Asaba.
”As legislature, we are readily available to see how we can work as partners in nation building.
”We will do our best to foster working relationship between the State House of Assembly and the media, ” he said.
The Speaker, while commending the media for their role as watch dog in the society, urged them to be objective in their reportage as well as project the state in the right direction.
”I urge you to continue to do the work that you are doing and give the best of your reportage and be objective in reporting the activities of the state, ” he added.
Guwor, however, assured that the Assembly would continue to enact laws that would help to impact on the lives of the the people of the state.
Earlier, Mr Ifeanyi Olannye, Chairman, Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel, said that the essence of the visit was to congratulate Guwor on his emergence as speaker.
Olannye called on the State Assembly to make farming compulsory for all civil servants, secondary schools and for communities to form farmers’ cooperative across the state.
He also stressed the need to give grants to farmers, engage communities for land and give civil servants a-one-day off duty every week to engage in farming.
Olannye also stressed the need to put mechanism in place to monitor the activities of the farmers.
According to him, this will no doubt help to ensure food security and job creation in the state.
”We are particular about the Disability law, Ban on Open Grazing, among others
”We urge you to liaise with the executive arm and the judiciary to enforce this so as to punish offenders and serve as deterrent to others.
”We are not in doubt of the capacity of this House under your vibrant leadership to deliver the dividends of good governance to our people inline with the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s ‘MORE Agenda, ” he added. (NAN)
