The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra, has admitted challenges with its delegates congress, but says the issues are not enough to derail the process.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the APC held the congress that will produce the party’s candidate for the Nov. 8, Governorship Election in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had scheduled the election, which is one of the off-cycle polls in Nigeria’s election calendar.

Mr Basil Ejidike, Chairman of APC, who gave the assurance while speaking to newsmen on Sunday in Awka, noted that there was no political process that was perfect.

“You do not expect our delegates congress to be 100 per cent perfect because we are human beings.

“We are having small-small challenges here and there, but they are not enough to scuttle the whole process,” Ejidike said.

The APC chairman was reacting to media reports that the process had been compromised by the congress committee, led by Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, former governor of Bauchi state.

The committee is made up of other party members, including Egogbamu Okoro, Ba’ande Imam, and Augustine Agada.

Other members of the committee include Mr Babangida Abdullahi, Umar Augie, Dr Chibuzor Nduaguda, and Mr Emma Eneukwu, the party’s National Secretary.

According to some of the media reports, as at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday when the congress was supposed to be underway, there was no sign of any political actuvity across the 326 wards in Anambra, among other allegations.

NAN reports that the national body of the APC had cleared seven governorship aspirants to contest the primary election in the state.

They include Mr Paul Chukwuma, Prof Obiora Okonkwo, Mr Nicholas Ukachukwu, Mr Chukwuma Umeoji, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Mr Johnbosco Onunkwo and Mr Edozie Madu.

NAN also reports that the aspirants are to contest for the party’s ticket at its governorship primary election slated for April 5.

At the time of filing this report, the result of the congress is yet to be announced. (NAN)
