The Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Saidu Yusuf, has advised officers and men of the service to be upright and hard working in the discharge of their duties.
Yusuf, who is also the Zonal Co-ordinator of Zone A, Lagos, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ota, Ogun.

He said that the advice had become necessary “as no leader that wants results that would engage a lazy officer on assignment”.

The zonal co-ordinator said that the management of NCS had embarked on standard projects with the best international practices to encourage the personnel to perform their duties effectively.

According to him, the management is doing quite a lot to ensure that NCS is positioned to a level that every one will be proud of.

Yusuf listed the building of a gigantic customs village, review of salary and insurance, building of housing scheme across the country, among others, as part of the measures put in place to enhance the performance of officials.

The ACG said that the listed programmes had been ongoing in the past one year under the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Mr Adewale Adeniyi.

Yusuf explained that any project embarked upon by the management were meant for the benefits of officers and the future of NCS.

“It is expected of the officers to do their best and key into the various projects.

“The NCS is urging the officers to be upright, as a lot is being done on their behalf and the results would start manifesting to boost the morale of officials.

“In addition, they need to create standards, be reputable and be hard working as they were transferred or moved from one command to others, “he said.

The ACG also implored officials to redouble their efforts “as everyone knows the challenges confronting them, especially at the border areas”. (NAN)
